A three-time REIACT competition auctioneering champion (2007,2011 & 2016), two-time ACT People's Choice Award winner (2011 & 2014) and six-time ACT competitor at the Australasian Championships, Peter is proud of these accolades and sees the many lessons learned and disciplines acquired from the auctioneer training involved, as the real benefits and rewards of competition auctioneering.
For Peter, the main attributes of elite auctioneering are the relentless pursuit of authenticity and integrity in any representations made; a gentle enthusiastic approach towards encouraging bidder participation via one-on-one conversations and the appropriate use of humour, all underpinned by an overriding respect for the bidders and the auction process.
Peter’s relaxed, calm, and conversational approach when auctioneering has seen him achieve many record sale prices for suburbs. Some sale prices achieved being in excess of $250,000 above the
reserve. What Peter sees as even more satisfying, is when many of the bidders at these same auctions, thank him afterwards for being so engaging, encouraging and settling their nerves during the bidding!

About the championship

Conducted jointly by the Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) and the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ), the Championships have become the most prestigious event on the Australasian Auctioneering calendar.

Originally established in 1991, as a competition between the Real Estate Institutes of Tasmania and Victoria, the concept was quickly adopted by South Australia and held every two years. Over time the remaining Australian states and territories joined the competition with Australasian partner, New Zealand. By 2005 the Championship had become an annual event with a highly sought-after title amongst auctioneers across Australasia.

Prior to the Championships each year, New Zealand and each Australian state and territory host individual auctioneering competitions to determine the best two auctioneers from each state and territory. These finalists go on to compete in the highly prestigious Australasian Auctioneering Championship.
